NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF FLUID FLOW INSTABILITIES IN PORE-SCALE WITH HETEROGENEITIES IN PERMEABILITY AND WETTABILITY

Quadrant geometry with permeability and wettability contrast occurs in different events, such as faults, wellbore damage, perforation zones. In these understanding the dynamics of immiscible fluid displacement is vital for enhanced oil recovery. Fluid flow studies showed that viscous fingering due to instabilities depend on mobility fluids capillary forces. Besides, porous domain heterogeneity also effective formation fingering. So, purpose current research numerically investigate effect permeability, properties Saffmann-Taylor instabilities. Numerical simulations rates model illustrated nodal crossflow, growth part, bypass second zone. model, a pattern observed patches are isolated because force end effects trapped within quadrant. Moreover, consequences apparent alters fluid-front efficiency shown.
